Stewart, eighth-graders salvage tie

n The ninth-graders suffered a 14-0 loss at Springdale Southwest.

SPRINGDALE -- Josh Stewart and the Siloam Springs eighth-grade football team came through Thursday with some late game heroics to salvage a 14-14 tie against Springdale Southwest.

Stewart threw a touchdown pass to Brendan Lashley with 20 seconds left in the game to pull the Panthers within 14-12.

Stewart then broke several tackles and scored the two-point conversion as the Panthers tied the Cougars in their season opener at Wildcat Stadium on the campus of Springdale Har-Ber.

After Southwest returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to take a 6-0 lead, Stewart scored the Panthers' first touchdown in the first quarter on a quarterback keeper.

The score was tied 6-6 at halftime. Southwest took a 14-6 lead in the third quarter, and Siloam Springs' game-tying drive started with 3 minutes, 30 seconds left on the clock.

No overtime is played in eighth-grade games.

Ninth-grade

The ninth-grade Panthers lost 14-0 to Springdale Southwest in their season-opener.

The Panthers trailed 7-0 at halftime and gave up another score in the second half.

The Panthers (0-1) had a couple of scoring chances, including driving down all the way to the 3-yard line on one but failed to score.

Up next

The eighth- and ninth-grade teams are scheduled to play their first home games of the season Thursday at Panther Stadium. The eighth-graders play Rogers Oakdale at 5:30 p.m., followed by the ninth-grade against Rogers Heritage at 7:30 p.m.
