Pickin' Time on 59

n The Siloam Springs portion of the sale will not be held at the airport this year.

The sixth annual Pickin' Time on 59 is Thursday through Saturday.

The 26 mile-long multi-community yard sale stretches along Arkansas Highway 59 and includes Siloam Springs, Gentry, Decatur, Gravette and Sulphur Springs. Each town provides a site for anyone to set up a yard sale. Most sites are free, but a few have reservations. The event is sponsored by the Siloam Springs, Gentry, Decatur, Gravette and Sulphur Springs Chambers of Commerce.

The yard sale has grown tremendously over the past three years as visitors from the larger surrounding area including Tulsa, Fort Smith, Joplin and Springfield have discovered the event, according to organizer Kathy Turner.

This year Siloam Springs' community yard sale will not be held at the Siloam Springs Airport, Turner said. A large airplane hanger is being built where the public parking was located. There is only a one-lane driveway to the yard sale field.

The Siloam Springs site has grown so much in the last couple of years that a one-lane driveway cannot handle the large amount of traffic, Turner explained. The city and airport manager are working to take care of this issue, she said.

There will be at least eight large yard sales along Arkansas Highway 59 near Siloam Springs, between the intersection of U.S. Highway 412 and the big curve going toward Gentry. Two sites are open to the public, but they are filling up fast. Both have a reservation fee. Those sites are:

• More than 30 spaces are available at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 59 and Shady Grove Road at a cost of $20, which includes all three days. For more information call Johnny Roberts at 479-228-0729.

• More than 10 spaces are available at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 59 and Cheri Whilock Drive at a cost of $20, which includes all three days. For more information call Patsy at 479-549-8194.

Other Siloam Springs yard sales include:

• Bellomy multi-family yard sale at 18941 Mallory Crossing, near the intersection of Arkansas Highway 59 and Bill Young Road.

• Furniture 59, with lots of furniture, near the intersection of Arkansas Highway 59 and Chesney Road.

• Davidson Family sale, with vegetables, flowers and pumpkins, near the intersection of Arkansas Highway 59 and Davidson Road.

Anyone can have a yard sale along Arkansas Highway 59 with permission from the landowner, but please provide parking off of the highway, Turner said.

Pickin' Time encourages individuals, families and nonprofits to clean out their garages, sheds, attics and storage, and sell that stuff to the next person. All kinds of items can be sold, including homemade or re-purposed furniture, plants, lawnmowers, art, jewelry, cars, rocks, antiques, fruit and vegetables, local honey, pop bottles, picture frames, construction surplus, wind chimes, collectibles, lawn art, office furniture, field tractors, car parts, marbles, arrowheads, boats, sports equipment, furniture that needs to be repaired, horse tack, cowboy boots, and anything else people might want to buy.

No animals of any kind can be sold, including chickens, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, birds and snakes, Turner said.
