Colcord hires new coaches

COLCORD, Okla. -- The Colcord (Okla.) High School football and boys basketball programs will be under new leadership in 2018-19.

The district hired former Colcord standouts Austin Martin as new head football coach and Jarrod Earp as boys basketball coach at its recent board meeting in March.

Martin, a 2006 Colcord graduate, played college football at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla., and was offensive coordinator at Pryor, Okla., the last two seasons.

Martin replaces Curtis Waltman, who resigned in January and was hired as an assistant coach at Haskell after going 8-13 in two seasons at Colcord, including a 5-6 mark in 2017. The Hornets lost to Adair 52-20 in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Martin was an all-state quarterback for the Hornets under then-coach Bud Simmons, who is now Colcord superintendent. He led the Hornets to a 12-1 record and state quarterfinals appearance in 2005.

He also coached as an assistant at McDonald County (Mo.) and Fairland (Okla.).

Earp replaces former John Brown men's head coach John Sheehy, who went 10-10 in his only season at Colcord.

Earp helped Moseley (Okla.) win two football championships and served a year as an assistant under Sheehy.
