Clarksville sweeps Siloam Springs in softball doubleheader

Clarksville hit a pair of home runs in a big fourth inning to bust open a tight contest in the second game of a 5A/6A softball doubleheader Monday against Siloam Springs.

Clarksville's Blaine English slammed a two-run home run to center field and one batter later Abby Kimbriel also hit one out as Clarksville turned a 4-1 lead into a 9-1 advantage. Clarksville finished with a 13-1 victory in five innings to complete the sweep of Siloam Springs.

After losing 16-0 in three innings in game 1, Siloam Springs held Clarksville scoreless in the top of the first inning of game 2 and began creating some offensive fireworks in the bottom of the first.

With two outs, Sydney Smith drew a walk and Danielle Boyster singled to left field as Smith moved to third base.

Jadyn Still roped a double into the left center field gap, which scored Smith to give Siloam Springs a 1-0 lead, however pinch runner Chloe Rocha was thrown at the plate as Siloam Springs tried to extend its margin.

Clarksville answered with three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead and the visiting Lady Panthers added a run in the top of the third to go up 4-1 after English doubled off the top of the left field fence and scored on Skeeter Bush's RBI single.

After giving up the early run, Clarksville pitcher Lauren Buss settled down to pitch four scoreless innings and got the win.

Jessie Robinson took the loss for Siloam Springs (0-12, 0-8).

Clarksville 16, Siloam Springs 0

Clarksville scored five runs in the top of the first inning and 10 more in the second to take an early 15-0 lead.

Clarksville added a run in the third inning.

Buss picked up the win, pitching three scoreless innings.

Siloam Springs' only base hit came from Kenlie Noel in the first inning, but she was tagged out in a run down in the bottom of the first. Siloam Springs' only other base runner came in the third inning when Ericka Galloway was hit by a pitch.

Noel took the loss for Siloam Springs.

Up next

Siloam Springs was scheduled to host Alma on Tuesday at La-Z-Boy Park. Results were not available at presstime.

Siloam Springs added a nonconference game against Greenland to its schedule at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Panthers will then play a conference game at Russellville on Friday.
