City Board to consider construction bid

Members of the city board will decide whether to approve a construction bid that is needed to renovate the Siloam Springs Museum during their next meeting on Tuesday, June 19, according to the meeting agenda.

For a number of years, the city has discussed with the museum the prospect of relocating from their current location at 112 N. Maxwell St. to the old post office building, according to a staff report. In January 2017, however, museum officials notified the board of directors that they decided to remain in their current location. Instead of moving, they wanted to improve the existing building in part to increase community awareness and enthusiasm for the museum, but also because of the building's historic value.

In August 2017, the Museum Board received approval from the board of directors for renovation plans which would amount to an estimated cost of $370,716, according to the report. If approved, the company selected to receive the bid would be The Marshall Group, a construction management company who requested to provide a bid for the parts needed for the remodeling in May 2018. The city opened bids on June 1, at which point The Marshall Group was chosen, as their bid was slightly under the originally-estimated costs.

Other items on Tuesday night's agenda include:

• The decision to approve funds in the amount of $59,999 for the purchase of a new 2019 Ford F450 flatbed dump truck.

• The second reading of a proposed ordinance to rezone a 5.17 acre property located at 620 Hwy. 16. If approved, the development of multi-family dwellings such as apartments would be permitted.

• The first and only reading of a proposed ordinance for the city to continue receiving property insurance coverage from Moss Insurance Agency.

• The decision to approve a resolution that would close certain rights-of-way for motorists near S. College Ave. and nearby alleyways. This was prompted following a petition filed by the Siloam Springs School District on June 7.
