Baseball loses early lead at Grove, falls 18-8

GROVE, Okla. -- The Siloam Springs baseball team jumped out to an early lead at Grove, Okla., on Friday, but the Ridgerunners roared back to take an 18-8 win in five innings.

Siloam Springs scored four runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run by Baron Meek and two-run single by Jackson Knight, and the Panthers (1-1) added single runs in the second and third to lead 6-0.

Taylor Pool, Isaac Price and Tanner Broyles hit three straight singles for the Panthers' fifth run in the second, and Chance Hilburn singled and came arond to score on Reed Wilbanks' hit in the third.

Grove got back three runs in the third and scored seven in the bottom of the fourth to go up 10-6.

The Panthers got two runs back to pull within 10-8 in the top of the fifth, but Grove scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule victory.

The Panthers finished with 13 hits, with two hits apiece comign from Pool, Price, Broyles, Jacob Rowe and Wilbanks.

Siloam Springs pitching gave up 15 hits and seven walks to Grove, while the Panthers' defense committed five errors. Rowe was tagged with the loss for the Panthers.

Siloam Springs is scheduled to return to action Tuesday at home against Farmington in a 5A/6A District 1 game.
