HARRISON -- A tournament championship was decided with a simple coin flip Saturday evening at the Harrison ReMax Cup.

The Siloam Springs Lady Panthers and Harrison Lady Goblins -- the defending 6A and 5A state soccer champions, respectively -- played to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation of the girls championship. Because tournament rules dictated no overtime and no penalty kicks period, the championship was decided on a predetermined tiebreaker list, with the final one being a coin flip. Harrison won the coin flip and the tournament championship.

It wound up being a good lesson for the Lady Panthers, according to coach Brent Crenshaw, as Siloam Springs held a 1-0 lead on Harrison and dominated most of the match but allowed the game's equalizer.

"The girls played well but learned a lesson not to let up at anytime and play a complete game," Crenshaw said.

Record-wise, Siloam Springs (7-1-1) is counting the result as a draw and the Lady Panthers finished the weekend with a 2-0-1 record.

On Friday, Siloam Springs defeated Class 6A Mountain Home 3-0 to open the tournament.

Earlier on Saturday, the Lady Panthers routed Class 7A Springdale 7-0 behind senior forward Megan Hutto's second hat trick of the year. Brooklyn Buckminster, Shelby Johnson, Hailey Dorsey and Brooklyn Shreve also had goals for the Lady Panthers against Springdale, while Laura Morales and Johnson had assists. Goalkeeper Sydney Bomstad had one save.

Buckminster scored the Lady Panthers' only goal against Harrison, and Bomstad had five saves against the Lady Goblins with the assist going to Hutto.

Boys

The Siloam Springs boys finished the weekend with one win and two draws, including a 1-1 tie against Rogers just days after losing to the Mountaineers 3-0 in Rogers on March 6.

"The boys progressed this weekend," Crenshaw said, "and I'm excited about their future."

The Panthers and Harrison's boys played to a scoreless draw on Friday night.

The Panthers (4-2-3) came back on Saturday morning and defeated Green Forest 3-0 before the final result against the Mounties.

Against Green Forest, Luke Gumm, Jorge Perez and Eli Jackson all scored goals, while Christian Marroquin had two assists and Julio Maldanado had one assist.

Goalkeeper Wyatt Church had two saves as the Panthers posted their fourth clean sheet of the season.

Gumm assisted on Jackson's goal for the Panthers' only score against Rogers, while Church had seven saves.

The Lady Panthers and Panthers were scheduled to host Owasso, Okla., on Tuesday night at Panther Stadium. Results were not available at presstime. Both teams return to action on Thursday at Tulsa (Okla.) Edison in their final action before taking off for spring break.
