Kansas girls defeated in state quarterfinals

EDMOND, Okla. -- The Kansas girls basketball team was defeated last Thursday 59-48 by Tahlequah Sequoyah in the Class 3A State Quarterfinals at Edmond Sante Fe.

Aside from a lopsided first quarter, the Lady Comets and Indians played neck and neck most of the way.

Sequoyah jumped on the Lady Comets (23-6) for a 12-2 lead at the first quarter and the Indians led 27-18 at halftime. Kansas cut the lead to 42-34 going into the fourth quarter.

Aydin Tucker led Kansas with 20 points, while Kaylee Armbrister had 15, Teri Leaf five, Lainie Payton four, Lynzie Davis three and Kelsey Guthrie one.

Jonia Walker led Sequoyah with 19 points, while Alexys Keys had 16 and Calesa Murdock 14.

Sequoyah went on to win the Class 3A state title, defeating Comanche 50-34 in the semifinals on Friday and then beating Kingston 53-51 on Saturday, with both games being played at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.
