The Siloam Springs High School's film and television program is hosting its annual spring premier outdoors in Bob Henry Park for the first time this year.

The Siloam Springs Spring Film Festival will be held in much the same format as the city parks and recreation department's summer movie nights, thanks to a collaboration between the school and the city, according to teacher Megan Denison. It is planned for 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 15.

"It's kind of nice to get it out of the school building and into the community," Denison said. "The city has been incredibly helpful and wonderful in working with us. They're going to make sure we're set up to be able to do this well."

The name of the event has also been changed from Spring Film Premier to Siloam Springs Spring Film Festival to sound more celebratory, she said.

The evening will begin with live musical entertainment. Approximately 15 short pieces, representing about 35 students in the advanced film and television classes and AV lab classes, will be shown during the event, she said. Students in the classes are either in their third or fourth year of the film and television program.

The short films will include documentaries, fiction, commercials and public service announcements. Many of the commercials feature local nonprofits such as Genesis House and Dogwood Literacy Council, Denison said.

"We've done a lot of video for the community this year so we want to show that off and also promote those nonprofits in our town that do great work," she said.

The festival is open to anybody who is interested in getting a glimpse of the high school program's work, Denison said. She hopes to make it an annual event.

Denison suggested bringing a blanket or lawn chair. Concessions will also be available in exchange for a donation.
