Cobb-Vantress Inc., purchased a 35,000-square foot office building in downtown Siloam Springs on Friday.

"It's an exciting opportunity for us to expand our business and plan for the future," said Joel Sappenfield, Cobb-Vantress president. "The new building offers a great centralized location with room to grow. We're looking forward to being a part of the vibrant downtown community in Siloam Springs."

The building, located at 305 E. Main Street, most recently housed Sager Creek Foods and previously served as the corporate offices of Allen Canning Company, according to a press release from Cobb-Vantress. It was built in the 1970s and an addition was completed in the 1990s.

Cobb will begin transitioning select team members to offices at the new location in the coming months. The company's other Siloam Springs location at 4703 U.S. Highway 412 E. will continue to serve as the global corporate headquarters for Cobb-Vantress, Sappenfield said.

Siloam Springs-based Allen Canning Company filed for bankruptcy protection in late 2013, and what remained of the company became Sager Creek Foods, which was later purchased by Del Monte, according to an article published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette last September.

Del Monte sold the Sager Creek brands to McCall Farms in September and closed its operations on Readings Road, which employed 238 people, the article states. Other operations in Siloam Springs, including Sager Creek's regional and sales offices, remained open at the time, it states.

Cobb-Vantress is the world's oldest pedigree broiler breeding company, the press release states. It moved its corporate headquarters from Concord, Mass., to Siloam Springs in 1986. Today, it distributes poultry to more than 120 countries and has facilities and offices in each region of the world.
