Panthers finish eighth at 5A State Tournament

PARAGOULD -- The Siloam Springs boys golf team finished eighth overall at the Class 5A Boys State Tournament on Tuesday at Paragould Country Club.

Host Paragould shot a team score of 293 on its home course and the Rams captured the state title, ending Jonesboro's streak of eight straight state titles. Hot Springs Lakeside finished second at 296, while Benton was third at 301, followed by Jonesboro 302, Little Rock Christian 305, Greenwood 308, Marion 322, Siloam Springs 341, El Dorado 341, Sylvan Hills 362, White Hall 375 and Jacksonville 455.

Greenwood's Evan Griffith shot a 68 to earn individual state title honors, besting Paragould's Chance Matthews' round of 69 by one stroke.

Senior Chase Beyer led Siloam Springs with an 82, while senior Josh Johnson shot 84, senior Karson Clement 85, junior Evan Sauer 90 and senior Trey Jackson 93.
