A political ad for George C. Wallace, who was running for president, stated that George Wallace and the American Independent Party feel that these "Ten Cannots" by Abraham Lincoln are just as true today as they were the day Mr. Lincoln wrote them.

"Ten Cannots" by Abraham Lincoln

"You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift."

"You cannot help small men by tearing down big men."

"You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer."

"You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich."

"You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income."

"You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred."

"You cannot establish security on borrowed money."

"You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence."

"You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

The ad also asked "Do you have the courage to stand up for America?"

A nighttime Christmas parade was in the works for Siloam Springs as the Women's Heritage League met with no opposition from the City Board of Directors.

Board member Karl Mounger, who openly doubted the safety in having a parade after dark, said he felt it would keep senior citizens from attending. Mounger grudgingly gave his consent to the time change, though.

The Women's Heritage League, which sponsors the annual event, had decided in November to have the Dec. 3 parade in the evening to coincide with the LightUp Siloam Springs lighting ceremony. Melinda Wilson, president of the Heritage League, said the lighting ceremony would begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the parade at 6 p.m.

With the bazaar during the day and then the lighting ceremony and the parade, businesses were encouraged to hold open house during the ceremony and parade. Food vendors had expressed an interest in having concessions available for the parade goers.

The road to Conway and the 5A State Volleyball Championship began on a Tuesday for the four-time defending champion Siloam Springs Lady Panthers.

Behind the leadership of two seniors -- Caitlyn Cleek and Aleshia Mitchell -- the Lady Panthers opened the state tournament in Wynne against Camden Fairview with the winner facing Nettleton at 2 p.m.

According to Lady Panther veteran head coach Rose Cheek, "To be the only two seniors (Aleshia and Caitlyn) on the team, those two girls have risen to the challenge and are very committed to this program. They are constantly pushing the rest of the team in order to get better."

Cleek, who played on the outside, while Mitchell mopped up the floor with her tenacious back-row defense, had been a part of four state championships during their high school career and playing for a 5-peat.
