August sales taxes show slight decrease from last year

Siloam Springs city sales tax receipts for last month showed a decrease of $5,345.78 when compared to the same month last year.

The city's sales tax revenue for August 2018 was $660,511.82, while in August 2017 this number was $665,857.60, according to the September issue of City & Town magazine. Siloam Springs has a total sales tax rate of 9.5 percent, and the sales tax revenue it receives directly is derived from two percent of this.

As for county sales tax revenue, Siloam Springs saw an increase of $23,031.14, from $267,668.92 in August 2017 to $290,700.06 in August 2018. Sales tax revenue is used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to infrastructure, emergency services, the public works department or the general fund.

For comparison, the sales tax revenues of other cities in the Northwest Arkansas area during these times are listed below:

• Bentonville -- Up $397,232.35, from $1,947,394.41 in August 2017 to $2,344,626.76 in August 2018.

• Eureka Springs -- Up $36,647.10, from $249,861.92 in August 2017 to $286,509.02 in August 2018.

• Fayetteville -- Up $149,139.58, from $3,633,967.49 in August 2017 to $3,783,107.07 in August 2018.

• Gentry -- Up $3,912.28, from $49,620.36 in August 2017 to $53,532.64 in August 2018.

• Lincoln -- Up $1,031.17, from $42,187.91 in August 2017 to $43,219.08 in August 2018.

• Rogers -- Up $206,345.46, from $3,071,366.10 in August 2017 to $3,277,711.56 in August 2018.

• Springdale -- Up $103,473.21, from $2,555,877.94 in August 2017 to $2,659,351.15 in August 2018.
