Senior Ryan Williams' first goal of the season seemed to be the game-winner, but St. Thomas (Texas) scored six minutes later, forcing a 110-minute double-overtime draw with the John Brown University men's soccer team on Thursday evening at Alumni Field.

Williams easily scored his penalty kick attempt in the 57th minute, handing over the lead to John Brown after the visiting Celts (1-2-1) outshot JBU 4-3 through the first 45 minutes of competition.

St. Thomas responded just six minutes later, however, as Jacob Evans ripped his second of the season by letting go a hard, low shot to the far left post from just outside the box to knot the match at one apiece.

John Brown out-shot the visitors 7-6 in the second half, but UST held a slim 3-2 margin through the overtime sessions as neither team was able to beat the opposing keeper for the second time in the match.

Omar Lopez needed just two saves for St. Thomas, while senior Britt Wisener racked up six saves in the draw.

John Brown was only able to send three of its 12 attempts on target in a rough match that featured 31 fouls and seven cautions.

Senior Santiago Vanegas and Williams each attempted four shots towards the Celt goal, leading the hosts. Evans attempted five in the contest, while Edwin Saldivar added three.

With a weekend to recover, John Brown returns to the Alumni Field pitch on Monday to face No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
