Sales tax jumps by $33K

— Sales tax receipts increased $33,168 in January compared to the same month in 2011.

Receipts for January were $468,614 and $435,446 in January 2011, according to City & Town magazine.

The city uses 90 percent of its receipts to pay for things such as the sewer plant, electrical infrastructure and streets.

The remaining 10 percent goes into reserves.

The city’s sales tax rate is 2 percent.

Receipts from the city’s share of thecounty tax decreased $4,472 in January compared to the same month last year.

The city’s share was $167,887 in January, and it was $172,359 the same month last year, according to City & Town.

These receipts are used to pay off bonds for water utility improvements.

The following area cities had an increase in receipts for January.

◊Fayetteville, $2.73 million

◊Gentry, $35,365

◊Lincoln, $17,636

◊Rogers, $2.08 million

◊Springdale, $1.57 million

Bentonville had a decrease in receipts for January. Its receipts were $1.21 million.
