Herald and Democrat in 1965

Buddy Villines, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Floyd G. Villines, was selected to play in the annual high school All-Star Football Game.

Villines, a team leader, and star tailback for the Panthers, was earlier named to the All-District and honorable Mention All-State teams. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry on the way to 1,694 yards in total offense that year. He was a three year letterman at Siloam Springs High School.

The Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce held a luncheon in honor of the high school basketball team, champions of the 1AAA Conference for 1984-85 and semifinalists at the state playoffs in Searcy.

Assistant Coach Steve Matchell started the affair with an invocation. Parents were in attendance as members of the Chamber introduced each player on the team individually and told of his accomplishments at Siloam Springs High School. David DeVore, Chamber President, gave a tribute to the team and the coaches, citing the great amount of attention drawn to the community because of the team's accomplishments.

Head Coach Dale Akins and Assistant Coach Matchell were given handsome plaques in recognition of their efforts and work for the team. School Superintendent Burton Elliott commend them especially.

Each team member received a plaque, along with the congratulations of the Chamber and the city of Siloam Springs, honoring their accomplishments during the 1984-85 season.

John Brown University took another step into the history books.

The No. 23-ranked Golden Eagles beat Carroll College (Mont.) 73-60 in the semifinals of the 2005 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

The Golden Eagles (23-31) were scheduled to play in the school's first-ever NAIA national championship game on Tuesday night against No. 8 Azusa Pacific (Calif.).
