A deluge of rain caused problems for the city of Siloam Springs and its residents in the form of flooded streets and blackouts, but the danger didn't extend to that experienced on June 8, 1974.

On that date, 7- to 8-inches of rain fell from the sky to cause a major flooding of the downtown area. If you asked anyone who was here then, you would hear horror stories of high water.

According to the Siloam Springs Fire Department's Highway 59 south sub-station, the city received over five inches of water within a week, with over four inches coming down on Nov. 18 and 19. That's two to three inches less than the downpour which caused the Great Flood of '74.

From the Herald-Leader in 2005

Dr. Charles Stinnett hung up his stethoscope after 45 years of practicing family medicine in Siloam Springs.

Stinnett announced his retirement after having back surgery that he was in the process of recovering from.

He said that when he officially retires Dec. 1 he would miss the patients the most. Stinnett had seen some patients for his entire 45 years as a doctor in Siloam Springs.

During his career, Stinnett worked with the same nurse, Connie Carter, for the last 25 years of his practice.

Stinnett spent his spare time in his greenhouse raising orchids, which he developed a love for in college while working at a greenhouse.

After retirement he planned to relax and to travel with his wife, Barbara.
