Haas Hall publicly funded, privately run

On April 25, Herald-Leader columnist Maylon Rice wrote in his Politically Local column that the two campuses of Haas Hall Academy were "tuition supported private schools."

On the contrary, the four campuses of Haas Hall Academy are a charter school: Publicly funded and privately run.

(Editor's Note: Rice issued a correction in his May 9 column.)

Readers of the Herald-Leader need to know that students from Siloam Springs have been carpooling to Haas Hall for about a decade and are now graduates or students of the University of Texas, University of Arkansas, Gordon College, Wheaton College, etc. -- and that Siloam Springs middle- and high-schoolers are attending there today.
