The photo that ran in the Herald and Democrat of the birthplace of General Eisenhower in Denison, Texas, was taken by Mrs. Edith Peigh of Siloam Springs in 1962.

Mrs. Peigh was born in Denison, six blocks from the Eisenhower home. She was the youngest of her family and the General was gone before she was born, although all her brothers and sisters grew up with him.

Mr. Eisenhower's father worked with Mrs. Peigh's father for a time on the "Katy" railroad.

For the second-straight year, Siloam Springs Panther senior guard Coleson Rakestraw received All-State honors after leading his team to the Class 5A state semifinals.

Rakestraw, who was the school's career scoring leader with 1,664 points and a future John Brown University Golden Eagle basketball player, capped off his four-year high school resume with 16 points in his last game against 5A state champion Greene County Tech.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior captian, according to his high school coach Jason McMahan, was "one of the greatest basketball players to ever come through Siloam Springs High School."

In the Panthers' 46-35 loss to Greene County Tech at the state semifinals earlier in the month in Alma, Rakestraw scored 11 points to pull his team within four points (18-14) in the second quarter.

McMahan, who had watched Rakestraw's career blossom in Siloam Springs since becoming his coach six years earlier in junior high, added that his shooting guard would be missed and hard to replace.
