Purple hands ninth-grade boys road loss

The Siloam Springs ninth-grade boys were defeated 51-43 on Monday night at Fayetteville Purple.

The loss was the second straight for the Panthers (16-6, 6-3 Northwest Arkansas Conference), who must win on Thursday at home against Springdale Central to qualify for the NWA-River Valley Region Tournament next week.

The Panthers led 13-12 after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead 24-22 at halftime.

Fayetteville took a 42-31 lead going into the third quarter.

Josh Stewart led Siloam Springs with 12 points, while Jedi Hunter and Brendan Lashley each had 10, Carter Winesburg six, Caden Pharr four and Jaxon Kooistra one.

The Panthers return to action at home Thursday against Springdale Central.

Girls

The Siloam Springs ninth-grade girls dropped their fifth straight Monday night 42-20 to Fayetteville Purple.

Purple led 11-6 after the first quarter, 24-13 at halftime and 35-18 going into the fourth quarter.

Halle Hernandez led the Lady Panthes (4-18, 1-8) with seven points, while Reina Tiefel had six. Jaydah Walker, Hannah Riley and Alexa Maxwell each had two, and Sydney Pfeiffer had one.

The ninth-grade girls wrap up their season Thursday at home against Springdale Central.

I-49 Invitational

The Siloam Springs eighth-grade basketball teams will be competing in the I-49 Challenge this week at Rogers Oakdale and Lingle middle schools.

The single-elimination tournament runs Wednesday, Thursday and concludes with the championship games on Saturday.

The Siloam Springs eighth-grade boys play at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday against Bentonville Fulbright at Lingle, while the Siloam Springs girls play host Oakdale at 6:30 p.m. at Oakdale.
