Eighth-grade girls advance to I-49 Challenge finals

ROGERS -- The Siloam Springs eighth-grade girls advanced to the championship game of the I-49 Challenge with a 33-29 victory over Bentonville Lincoln in the tournament semifinals on Thursday at Oakdale Middle School.

The Lady Panthers were scheduled to play Bentonville Fulbright in the championship game on Saturday afternoon. Results were not available at presstime.

Siloam Springs improved to 16-3 overall with the win over Lincoln in Thursday's semifinal.

The Lady Panthers trailed 11-9 after the first quarter but rallied to take a 18-15 lead at halftime. Siloam Springs carried a 28-19 lead into the fourth quarter where it withstood a Lincoln rally.

Brooke Ross led Siloam Springs with 10 points, while Sophia Stephenson scored nine of her points in the second half. Brooke Smith added eight points, Mimo Jacklik had four and Faith Ellis two.

The Lady Panthers defeated Rogers Oakdale 45-36 on Wednesday in the opening round.

Siloam Springs led 12-7 after the first quarter and 21-15 at halftime. The Lady Panthers increased their lead to 35-25 going into the fourth quarter.

Ross led Siloam Springs with 20 points, while Jacklik had 11. Smith and Anna Wlelkinski each had six and Ellis contributed two.

Boys

The Siloam Springs eighth-grade boys' season ended Wednesday with a 40-22 loss to Bentonville Fulbright in the opening round of the I-49 Challenge at Lingle Middle School.

The Panthers finished with a record of 8-9 overall.

Fulbright led 15-4 after the first quarter and 24-10 at halftime. The Timberwolves extended their lead to 31-12 after three quarters.

Jaxson Spence led the Panthers with six points, while Connor Clayton and Dalton Newman each had four, Malachi Watkins three, Landon Crenshaw and Levi Fox each with two and Samuel Herndon one.
