Kansas, Colcord advance to regionals

The Kansas boys and girls basketball teams both were victorious last Friday in the Oklahoma Class 3A Area IV District 8 Tournament held at the Kansas Event Center.

The Lady Comets defeated Salina 63-42, while the Comets defeated Salina 54-41 in the boys game.

Both Kansas teams now advance to the region tournament, which will be held in both Heavener and Roland on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Comets play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Pocola at Heavener. The winner gets an area tournament berth and advances to Saturday's 6:30 p.m. region championship game in Roland. The loser must play Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in Roland in an elimination game and also win on Saturday to advance to the area tournament next week.

The Comets, meanwhile play host Heavener at 8 p.m. Thursday, and the winner of that game will advance to the region tournament finals and receive an area berth. The loser must win on Friday and Saturday to keep their season alive.

Class 2A

The Colcord basketball teams kept their seasons alive last week with wins Saturday night in the opening round of the Oklahoma Class 2A Area II District 1 Tournament.

Colcord's girls defeated Afton 56-31 on Saturday, but the Lady Hornets were defeated by Oklahoma Union 56-39 on Monday night in the championship game. Colcord will now advance to the region tournament at Nowata and play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Ketchum. The Lady Hornets have to win three straight elimination games to keep their season alive.

The Colcord boys defeated Afton 45-43 on Saturday night in the opening round of the district tournament. The Hornets then lost 95-44 against Oklahoma Union in the finals. The Hornets will play at 3 p.m. Thursday against Nowata in an elimination game and must win three straight to keep their season alive.

Class B

The Oaks basketball teams saw their season come to an end last Friday in the Oklahoma Class B Area II Region Tournament.

The Oaks girls won an elimination game Thursday 49-35 against South Coffeyville at Myskoke Dome, however, the Lady Warriors were defeated by New Lima 60-40 on Friday.

The Oaks boys also won an elimination game on Thursday, besting Shidler 55-37, but the Warriors lost to Varnum 76-40 on Friday.
