Kansas teams advance to area tourney

The Kansas (Okla.) basketball teams advanced to the Oklahoma Class 3A Area IV Tournament this week with wins in the opening round of the Class 3A Area IV Region Tournament last week.

The Kansas girls defeated Pocola 55-48 on Thursday, but the Lady Comets lost in the championship 56-32 against host Roland.

Kansas advances to the area tournament at Okemah, where it must win three straight games to advance to the state tournament. The Lady Comets play Hugo in an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Kansas boys defeated Heavener 68-37 last Thursday, but the Comets were defeated by Roland in the regional championship 62-42.

The Comets advance to the area tournament at Okemah, where they also must win three straight to advance to state. Kansas boys play at 8 p.m. Thursday against Marietta in an elimination game.

Class 2A

Colcord's girls defeated Ketchum 34-31 on Thursday in a consolation game of the Class 2A Area II Region Tournament. But the Lady Hornets were defeated 38-25 by Quapaw in an elimination game on Friday to end their season.

The Colcord boys' season came to an end last Thursday with a 77-43 loss to Nowata in the consolation bracket of the Class 2A Area II Region Tournament.
