SSHS boys finish third at state swim meet

RUSSELLVILLE -- The Siloam Springs boys swim team finished third overall Saturday at the Class 5A State Swim Meet held at the Russellville Community Center.

Little Rock Christian Academy took the state championship with 248 points, followed by Lake Hamilton with 214 and Siloam Springs at 206. Mountain Home was fourth with 201, followed by Jonesboro 180, Benton 177, Russellville 171, El Dorado 159, Hot Springs Lakeside 106, Greene County Tech 97, Sylvan Hills 64, Maumelle 48, Alma 41 and Little Rock Parkview 11.

The Panthers had a pair of second place finishes individually. Swimmers that placed in the top six earned a medal at the state meet.

Lee Thompson placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.88 seconds and earned all-state honors.

Landon Cottrell also earned all-state honors in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.23, while Luke Markovich was ninth at 1:16.32.

Owen Thomas placed fourth in the 200 individual medley at 2:21.78, while Javier Chavez was seventh at 2:34.56.

Cottrell placed fifth in the 500 freestyle at 5:37.25, while Owen Thomas was sixth at 5:44.39 and Ben Haak 10th at 6:11.19.

Will Gryder was sixth in the 100 backstroke at 1:04.09.

The 200 medley relay team of Gryder, Cottrell, Thompson and Thomas took third at 1:47.95.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Thompson, Chavez, Markovich and Gryder placed sixth at 1:41.44.

The 400 freestyle relay of Thomas, Thompson, Gryder and Cottrell was third at 3:37.82.

Girls

Siloam Springs took 12th place overall in the 5A girls meet.

Jonesboro won the state title with 340 points, followed by Mountain Home 263, Greene County Tech 257, Russellville 253.5, Benton 193, Little Rock Christian 165, El Dorado 127.5, Maumelle 110.5, Sylvan Hills 85, Hot Springs Lakeside 72, Vilonia 62.5, Siloam Springs 58, Hot Springs 26 and Little Rock Parkview 12.

Kate Gryder was fourth in the 200 freestyle at 2:11.56.

Gryder also placed fourth in the 500 freestyle at 6:03.79.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Gryder, Edith Balderrama, Jordan Rush and Baleigh Butler took 10th at 2:08.00.

The 400 freestyle relay of Gryder, Balderrama, Rush and Butler placed 10th at 4:53.81.
