Siloam Springs Regional Hospital will host a free "Stop the Bleed" training class from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, inside the hospital's Classroom 1 at 603 N. Progress Ave.
Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign aimed at educating first responders and the general public on how to stop severe bleeding and potentially save lives in an emergency.
It is critically important to quickly stop blood loss. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. And uncontrollable bleeding is the No. 1 cause of preventable death from trauma. Those nearest to someone with a bleeding injury can make a life-saving difference if they are adequately trained to provide first care to the injured person.
This free course will teach the importance of stopping the bleed. Participants will learn how to identify the source of bleeding, look for life-threatening injuries, and learn basic life-saving interventions including bleeding control with direct pressure, bleeding control with gauze packs, packing a wound and bleeding control with a tourniquet. Each participant will have the opportunity to perform each skill during the course. The class is appropriate for both the general public and healthcare providers.
