City sales taxes decrease slightly, county improves

Siloam Springs city sales tax receipts for last month showed a 4.2 percent decrease when compared to February 2018.

Sales tax revenues for February 2019 totaled $712,744.78, while in February 2018, this figure was $744,279.85, a decrease of $31,535.07, according to the March 2019 issue of City and Town magazine. The sales tax rate for Siloam Springs is 9.5 percent and revenues for the city are generated from two percent of this.

The decrease is a slight shift from last month, which showed a 4.7 percent increase. As for county sales tax revenue received by the city, there was a decrease of 9.7 percent, from $344,387.01 in February 2018 to $310,869.52 in February 2019. This decrease is consistent among cities across the county and although it is still a decrease, it is an improvement from last month, when county sales tax revenues fell by 60 percent. For comparison, the city sales tax revenues of some cities in the Northwest Arkansas region are:

Bentonville -- Down 30.9 percent, from $3,391,764.03 in February 2018 to $2,343,004.66 in February 2019.

Eureka Springs -- Up 0.4 percent, from $184,077.09 in February 2018 to $184,805.20 in February 2019.

Fayetteville -- Down 2.5 percent, from $4,318,829.12 in February 2018 to $4,212,651.44 in February 2019.

Gentry -- Up 29.8 percent, from $57,902.31 in February 2018 to $75,126.65 in February 2019.

Gravette -- Down 51.9 percent, from $173,500.86 in February 2018 to $83,391.72 in February 2019.

Lincoln -- Down 2.2 percent, from $47,282.96 in February 2018 to $46,249.16 in February 2019.

Rogers -- Up 1.4 percent, from $3,835,727.62 in February 2018 to $3,841,126.67 in February 2019.

Springdale -- Up 2.4 percent, from $2,601,762.87 in February 2018 to $2,663,394.17 in February 2019.
