Jack Everett Chase

Jack Everett Chase, 91-year-old resident of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, died on August 11, 2022, at Quail Ridge Living Center in Colcord, Oklahoma.

He was born on January 26, 1931, in Ticonic, Iowa, to Everett Earl and Geneva Butler Chase. He moved to Waterbury Nebraska as a child until 1939, when his family located to Sheldon, Iowa.

He went to Iowa State University in Ames Iowa in the fall of 1948 where he worked at the Iowa State Memorial Union and joined the ROTC. His college education was interrupted by polio, which delayed his graduation with a BS degree in Business Administration until March of 1954.

He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army and was assigned to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado in April, 1954. He married Maribeth DeWitt in Atlantic Iowa in August 1954 and their son John was born in Colorado Springs in October 1955.

He accepted a position with General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) after he was discharged from the Army and moved to Denver, CO, where his daughter Claire was born in March 1959. The family moved to Rapid City, SD, in 1960 where he worked for both GMAC and Rapid Chevrolet and where Kit and Abby joined the family.

The Chase family moved to Ida Grove Iowa in 1966 when he began his banking career as a Vice President for Ida County State Bank and later President of First State Bank from 1966 to 1985. He also had extensive involvement in many community organizations, including holding officer positions for the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He served as the President and Board of Directors for Ida Grove Housing Inc., and was the Ida Grove Community Housing Building Committee Chairman.

He was involved in the Horn Memorial Hospital Doctor procurement committee, the Doctor's Clinic Building chairman, and was a community ambulance volunteer. He was on the Board of Directors of the Iowa State Memorial Union. One of Jack's proudest accomplishments was chairing the Ida Grove Country Club building committee, which resulted in a beautiful new country club building and golf course that has served the community for over 50 years.

In 1985 he moved to California to work in real estate for Century 21 with Joe Hooker, an old Army buddy. He met Carol in San Diego CA, and they were married in August 1998. On their drive back to Arkansas one day after their wedding, she was killed in a car accident in Arizona.

In 2000 he met Suellen Coleman and they were married in 2007. He retired from managing the Short Stop gas station/convenience store in 2016 at 85 years of age. Jack succumbed to the side effects of severe dementia at the age of 91 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Earl and Geneva; his brother, Garry Chase; first wife, Maribeth DeWitt Chase; and second wife, Carol Chase.

He is survived by his wife, Suellen, of the home; son, John Chase and wife Marian, of Orlando, Florida; daughters, Claire Chase and Douglas Gorham of Kansas City, Kansas; Kit Hansen and husband Scott, of Adel, Iowa, and Abby Clutter and husband Archie, of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Carol Irwin, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and many caring nieces and nephews. Grandchildren, Adam Chase and wife Jennifer, Megan Emerson and husband Patrick, Sarah Guidry and husband Grant, Anna Hester and husband Davis, Thomas Clutter, Daniel Clutter, Emily Hansen, Sophie Hansen, Alex Harrold, and Quinn Harrold; great-grandchildren, Ella, Maggie, Olivia, Reese, Chase, Drew, Jack, and Millie. Step children, Terri Woodward and husband Mike, Cara Bland and husband James, Misti Stephens and husband Jim Bob; step-grandchildren, Brandon Woodward, Nathan Woodward, Eli Bland, Ryli Middendorff and husband Jesper, Coleman Stephens, and Stone Stephens.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Memorial service will be Saturday, August 20, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Clark Atkins and Chaplain Terry Wofford officiating. Wendell 'Anthony' Hartfield

Wendell Anthony Hartfield, 75, of Decatur, Ark., died Aug. 13, 2022, in Bentonville, Ark.

He was born July 15, 1947, in Lumberton, Miss., to Walter Hartfield, and Louise (Brannigan) Hartfield.

He graduated in 1966 from Bass Memorial Academy in Purvis, Miss., and earned his AA in Mechanical Engineering from Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss. After graduation he was drafted into the Army. He spent two years in the service and completed one tour in Vietnam.

He married Diana Adams on July 1, 1973 and settled in Tennessee. They later returned to Northwest Arkansas to work at the family business, Adams Truss Inc., in Gentry, Ark.

He was a fan of auto mechanics, he loved restoring Corvette's and later in life antique tractors. He also enjoyed backpacking, camping, hiking, spelunking, birding and water skiing and travel. He also was involved with Tired Iron of the Ozarks.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is preceded in death by both parents; stepmother, Mildred Mabry Hartfield; parents-in-law, Fred and Erma Adams; sister-in-law, Dolores Adams; and brother-in-law, Luis Monterde.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; daughter, Anna and her husband Tim McMillen, of Lincoln, Calif.; sister, Paula Monterde, of Purvis, Miss.; brother, Floyd Hartfield and wife Nellie, of Longbeach, Miss.; brother-in-law, Dale Adams and wife Patricia, of Gentry, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, Ark. Funeral service will be at Wasson Funeral Home Chapel, at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 19, 2022. Burial will follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
