Emphasize giving thanks 'for' all things

Just a gentle theological nudge to Gene Linzey who told us this Thanksgiving season that we need to give thanks in all things, not for all things.

He used I Thessalonians 5:18 as his proof text.

I've heard and read many church leaders who have waxed eloquently on this distinction between giving thanks in all things and not for all things.

I've interacted with pastors who have told me the Bible never says we are to give thanks for all things, only in all things.

However, by emphasizing the preposition "in" and eliminating the preposition "for," the biblical view of giving thanks is easily morphed into gratitude only for the things we like and not for the things we need.

Consider Paul's words to the Ephesians: "... giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:20.

Just something to ponder.

Partnership is 'odoriferous' and 'repugnant'

At the Siloam Springs City Board meeting of Dec. 2, 2014, our City Board arbitrarily voted without an understanding or consideration as to what an impact partnering with the Chamber of Commerce and John Brown University, at the expense of the taxpayers of almost $1 million, would have on an already strained or non-existent faith of the taxpayers in our city government to govern in the best interest of all citizens in an already shaky and strained economy.

The choice between an equal imposition of an economical recovery policy for all citizens or to continue an incompetent, self-indulgent, and perfidious policy that would satisfy the Chamber of Commerce and John Brown University's self-indulgent desires.

This rapacious and predatory partnership for access to the taxpayers' money is an odoriferous and a repugnant act.

I believe that the collective guilt of this City Board, the Chamber of Commerce, and John Brown University by this nefarious act has no equal in the history of our city.
