Brad Burns will take the Ward 2 seat on the city Board of Directors, according to unofficial results.

In the election Tuesday, Burns had 143 votes to Bob Highfill's 84 votes. Voter turnout was about 14 percent.

"I am honored that the residents of Siloam Springs chose me to represent them on the city board," Burns said in an email statement. He also said he was pleased with those who turned out to vote.

"As a representative of the community, I will always keep the good of Siloam in mind while making decisions that impact this great city," Burns said.

When asked about the election, Highfill said, "It's good. I think Brad will do fine."

When asked about those who voted for him, Highfill explained how they think like he thinks. However, with the results of the election, it was "not the direction that people want to go," he said.

Only voters who live in the ward could vote in the runoff election. The ward includes the northeast section of the city.

Highfill and Burns met in the runoff after they received the most votes in the primary election April 8. The seat became vacant when James Fuller died Nov. 19, 2013. The term for the seat expires Dec. 31. The position will be up for election again in November.

Filing is already underway for the four-year term starting Jan. 1. Burns filed for the seat on Wednesday. Highfill said he's not going to run again.

If more than two candidates file, a primary election will take place Aug. 12. In the election, if no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes will face off in the general election Nov. 4.
