Four police cars escorted the returning John Brown University Golden Eagles into Siloam Springs after they claimed the national NAIA division one title.

Almost 50 die-hard fans came out in the 40-degree weather to welcome home the national champions.

The fans were mostly JBU faculty and staff and members of the Siloam Springs community. Noticeably absent were JBU students, many of whom had left town for spring break.

Prior to that season's run, the John Brown University Golden Eagles had been to the NAIA National Tournament twice, losing in the Sweet 16 both times. They topped that mark when they defeated Azusa Pacific Cougars, 65-55, in the title game to lay claim to the NAIA national championship.

Brandon Cole was presented with the Most Valuable Player award and a check for $1,000 for a scholarship fund in his name at JBU by Buffalo Funds representatives Steve Baker and John Kornitzer.
