Butler files for re-election

Incumbent Brent Butler was the only person to file to run for the open Siloam Springs School Board seat.

The deadline to file for a school board position was Tuesday. Elections will be held Sept. 15.

Butler. who represents zone 5, has served on the school board since 2000.

Arkansas law allows polls to be closed on election day if there is no more than one candidate for the open position and if there is no change or restructure of the local millage rate, according to superintendent Ken Ramey. Instead, the election is conducted through early voting. In the past, the district has applied to close the polls when the election was uncontested, saving the district several thousand dollars.

The Siloam Springs School Board has five members, each representing a zone. The members serve rotating five-year terms so only one position comes up for election each year.

Zone 2, currently held by Chuck Hyde, will be open for election in 2016.
