Ninth-grade boys track finishes fifth

n The girls team finished sixth at the Pea Ridge Junior High Invitational.

PEA RIDGE -- The Siloam Springs ninth-grade track teams competed Monday at the Pea Ridge Junior High Invitational held at Pea Ridge High School.

The meet was originally scheduled for March 3 but was postponed because of winter weather.

Panthers

The Panthers finished fifth overall with a total of 74 points, trailing Pea Ridge High School with 126, Farmington 108, Gentry 103 and Gravette 75. Finishing behind Siloam Springs were Prairie Grove 32, Rogers Oakdale 30, Pea Ridge Middle School 25, Bentonville Lincoln 9 and Shiloh Christian 1.

Quan Sorrells finished first in the boys high jump and scored 10 points with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches.

Sorrells placed sixth in the long jump and scored three points with a mark of 16 feet, 11 inches, while Braden Smartt finished 17th with a height of 15 feet, 6.5 inches.

Smartt placed 14th in the boys triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 2 inches, while Jose Trujillo was 17th at 28 feet, 11 inches.

Danny Fernandez placed first in the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 5 inches and scoring 10 points. Wyatt Washington placed fourth with a throw of 106 feet, 11 inches and scored five points. Kameron Greenlee finished eighth with a throw of 97 feet, 9 inches and scored one point.

Fernandez finished first in the shotput with a throw of 41 feet, 5.5 inches and scored 10 points. Greenlee placed fourth with a throw of 37 feet, 4 inches and scored five points, while Washington took 14th with a throw of 33 feet, 2 inches.

Sorrells placed first in the boys 100-meter dash, scoring 10 points with a time 12.42 seconds. Fernandez placed 16th with a time of 13.32, while Trujillo was 22nd at 13.79 seconds.

Isaac Leachman placed third in the boys 1,600-meter run with a finishing time of 5 minutes, 43.02 seconds and scored six points. Washington placed 19th with a time of 7:05.38.

In the boys 4x100-meter relay, the team of Trujillo, Sorrells, Smartt and Caleb Ellis finished fourth with a time of 50.70 seconds and scored five points.

Trujillo placed 12th in the boys 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.14.

Leachman placed sixth and scored three points in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.43.

Sorrells placed third in the boys 200-meter dash and scored six points with a time of 25.82. Smartt placed 13th with a time of 27.85, while Fernandez was 23rd at 30.05.

Lady Panthers

Siloam Springs finished sixth overall in the girls meet with 42 points. Pea Ridge High School finished first with 152.5 points, while Gentry was second at 84.5, followed by Rogers Oakdale 80, Gravette 77 and Shiloh Christian 56. Finishing behind Siloam Springs was Bentonville Lincoln 32, Prairie Grove 29 and Pea Ridge Middle School 10.

Allie Bowman won the girls discus with a throw of 87 feet, 7 inches and earned 10 points. Bailey Mullikin placed third and earned six points with a throw of 78-11.

Bowman placed second in the girls shot put and scored eight points with a throw of 31 feet, 11 inches. Mullikin was sixth at 28 feet, 6 inches and earned three points.

Caroline Farine placed third in the girls 1,600-meter run and earned six points with a time of 6 minutes, 29.72 seconds.

Farine placed fourth in the girls 800-meter run and scored five points with a time of 2:53.99.

Farine also placed fifth in the girls 400-meter dash and earned four points with a time of 1:15.01.

In the girls long jump, Natalie Mathe had a distance of 11 feet, 7.5 inches for 12th place.

Mathe placed 14th in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 16.69 seconds.

Mathe took 14th in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 35.25 seconds.

Up next

The junior high Panthers and Lady Panthers are scheduled to compete next in the Gravette Lion Relays on March 31.
