SSHS athletes compete at Meet of Champions

RUSSELLVILLE -- Siloam Springs athletes Alexis Duffy, Caroline Farine, Jasmine Guillen and Hannah Herring competed Saturday in the Meet of Champions at Cyclone Stadium.

In the high jump, Duffy, a junior, finished with a mark of 5 feet, 2 inches, which tied for ninth place. Sara Elkins of Greenwood, who beat Duffy by one inch at the 6A state meet, won the event at the Meet of Champions with a mark of 5-7.

In the 3,200-meter run, Guillen, a sophomore who won the 6A state title in the event, ran a time of 12 minutes, 40.02 seconds and finished ninth.

Lake Hamilton's Cassidy Turner, who Guillen defeated at the state meet, ran a 12:07.02 and finished seventh. Nettleton's Kyandra Chandler finished first overall with a time of 11:30.73.

In the 4x800-meter relay, the team of Duffy, Farine, Guillen and Herring finished ninth with a time of 10:29.96. Bentonville's team of Sophie Quandt, Merrill Leak, Trinity Walker and Katy Kotoucek finished first with a time of 9:31.91. Lake Hamilton's team of Kami Ward, Breana Darnley, Josie Carson and Courtney Porter placed second at 9:59.02.
