Allen Classic: Ninth-grade teams lose to Greenwood

A series of mistakes put Siloam Springs behind the eight-ball against Greenwood on Wednesday in the winner's semifinals of the Boys Gray Bracket of the 29th annual Allen Classic.

The Panthers made several runs in the second half but were never able to catch the Bulldogs in a 49-41 loss at Panther Activity Center.

The Panthers trailed 22-15 after a Greenwood basket by Peyton Holt, but Siloam Springs pulled within 22-17 at halftime.

Back-t0-back baskets by Karson Clement and Micah Eldridge pulled the Panthers within 22-21 to open the third quarter. However Greenwood responded with a pair of buckets by Devin Stallings and a transition basket from Aaron Ohl to go back up 28-21.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 11 in the third.

Siloam Springs had one more run in the fourth quarter. Trailing 35-28 to open the third, a Clement 3-pointer pulled the Panthers within 35-31, and a floater from Murphy Perkins made it 35-33. Greenwood responded with baskets from Stallings and a 3-pointer from Holt to go up 42-33.

Clement and Matthew Avery hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 42-39, and the Panthers had chances to get closer in the final minutes but couldn't convert on the offensive end as Greenwood pulled away.

Stallings led Greenwood with 14 points as the Bulldogs advanced to Saturday's championship game against Springdale Southwest.

Clement led all Siloam Springs players with 16 points, while Jacob Wakefield had nine, Perkins six, Baron Meek, Avery with three each and Kaiden Thrailkill and Micah Eldridge with two each. The Panthers played in the third place game on Saturday against Stilwell, Okla. Results were not available at presstime.

Girls

Lady Bulldogs 32, Lady Panthers 25

Leading 10-6 at halftime, Siloam Springs opened up a 15-6 lead just minutes into the third quarter of Wednesday's winner's bracket semifinal of the Gray Girls Division of Allen Classic.

But that was as good as things got for the Lady Panthers as Greenwood finished the second half on a 26-10 run to take a 32-25 victory.

Chloe Price hit a 3-pointer to open the second half as Siloam Springs took a 13-6 lead, and Emery Brown scored down low for a 15-6 lead.

Siloam Springs then committed three straight turnovers as Greenwood pulled within 15-10, but another Price basket put the Lady Panthers ahead 17-10. Greenwood then went on a 11-1 run to go up 21-18 with 4:18 left in the fourth quarter.

A pair of free throws from Price with 3 minutes left pulled Siloam Springs within 21-20. The Lady Panthers briefly retook the lead on a basket from Hailey Dorsey, but Greenwood got it right back on a jumper from Sara McOlvin.

Baleigh Washington then drained a 3-pointer and hit four straight free throws as Greenwood went ahead 30-25. Karli Fisher finished the game off with a pair of free throws to set the final score.

Washington led Greenwood with 11 points. The Lady Bulldogs played in the championship on Saturday against Springdale Southwest.

Price led the Lady Panthers with 14 points, while Dorsey had four, Alexis Roach three, and Katie Kendrick and Brown two each. The Lady Panthers played in the third place game on Saturday against Stilwell, Okla. Results were not available at presstime.
