Missouri man killed in Adair County train collision

A Missouri man was killed on Friday when the semi-truck he was driving collided with a train near Westville, Okla.

The collision occurred about 1 p.m. when a Peterbilt truck, driven by Timothy Schmidt, 54, of Neosho, Mo., was eastbound on a two-lane Adair County road and failed to yield, traveling into the path of a northbound train, according to a release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Schmidt was ejected from the truck he was driving and pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical crews, the release stated.

The 124 car Kansas City Southern train had two passengers -- engineer David Fredrickson, 44, of Poteau, Okla., and conductor Jonathon Logston, 35, of Fort Smith, Ark. Both men were treated for injuries and released from the hospital.

Seat belts were not in use during the collision. Schmidt's condition is under investigation, the release stated.
