Trio named SAC Players of Week

Three John Brown University athletes were recognized on Monday by the Sooner Athletic Conference.

For the third time in her career, junior volleyball player Alyssa Arnold has been named the conference's Setter of the Week, while men's soccer sophomore Santiago Vanegas was named Defensive Player of the Week and women's soccer sophomore Jastin Redman was named Offensive Player of the Week.

Arnold led the Golden Eagles (15-10, 6-6 SAC) to a 1-1 week averaging 6.1 assists per set over nine frames. She had 25 assists in a four-set loss to Wayland Baptist (Texas) before following that up with a 30-assist performance in a four-set win over Southwestern Christian (Okla.).

Despite running a 6-2 offense, Arnold is eighth among SAC setters in total assists (502) and ninth in sets per conference game (5.0).

The Golden Eagles return to action at 7 p.m. Friday against Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth.

Vanegas netted his first two goals of the season in John Brown's 5-0 shutout of Science and Arts (Okla.) this past Saturday. He also helped the Golden Eagles (10-1-1, 5-0 SAC) to their third-consecutive shutout and eighth of the season. The accolades from the SAC were the first of Vanegas' career.

Redman scored her fourth game-winner of the season in the 104th minute to give John Brown (11-1-1, 5-0 SAC) a 2-1 double-overtime win over Science and Arts (Okla.) this past Saturday.

Redman's tally was her 10th of the season, which ranks her tied for third among all SAC strikers. She now has a total of 30 points, also third among all SAC players. The award was her second of the season, third of her career.

Both JBU soccer teams returned to action Tuesday at Southwestern Christian. Results were not available at presstime. Both teams play this Saturday at Wayland Baptist.
