Lady Panthers' lead vanishes at Greenwood

GREENWOOD -- Siloam Springs had a 2-0 lead on No. 1 seed Greenwood on Tuesday in the winner's bracket semifinals of the 6A-West Conference Tournament, but the Lady Panthers' momentum stopped there as the Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 3-2 victory (23-25, 24-26, 25-6, 25-10, 15-3).

Greenwood advanced to the championship game, which was played Thursday in Greenwood, and the Lady Bulldogs swept Russellville (25-13, 25-14, 25-15) to earn the No. 1 seed from the West for this week's Class 6A State Tournament, which begins Tuesday at Lake Hamilton. Greenwood earned a first-round bye and will play at 2 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday's game between the East No. 4 seed and Lake Hamilton.

Complete brackets were not available at presstime because some conference tournament games were played Saturday night.

Siloam Springs, meanwhile, played at Benton in the third-place game on Saturday night. Russellville defeated Benton 3-2 on Tuesday, and the Lady Cyclones will be the No. 2 seed this week.

Depending on the results of Saturday's game against Benton, Siloam Springs will either be the No. 3 seed and play Tuesday at 4 p.m. against the East No. 6 in the opening round. Or the Lady Panthers will be the No. 4 seed and play Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the East No. 5.

It would have been a different story altogether had the Lady Panthers found a way to upset Greenwood on Tuesday.

Shaylon Sharp led the Lady Panthers with 10 kills against Greenwood, along with 20 digs, four block assists and one ace. Chloe Price had seven kills, nine digs and 14 assists.

Madison Cooper and Allie Bowman each had four kills, while Cooper had four block assists and Bowman two block assists.

Ellie Lampton had three kills, while Alexis Roach had a kill and two block assists.

Meg Gray had 10 assists and nine digs and an ace. Andrea Lowry led with 36 digs, while Kelsey Lewis had 33 digs. Britain Castagna had three aces.
