Time is running out to sign up for one of the Chamber of Commerce's major yearly events. The Outstanding Civic Leadership Event will be held on Sept. 29.

The ninth annual "roast-and-toast" event will honor Shelley Simmons this year. The Outstanding Civic Leadership Award is awarded to an individual who has gone above and beyond what is expected in promotion of the community of Siloam Springs.

Meghan Kenney, who is organizing the event, said Simmons was chosen because of how much of a difference she has made in downtown Siloam Springs in recent years. Simmons was the part-time director of Main Street Siloam Springs and owns a pair of properties downtown, including restaurant 28 Springs.

The speakers at the event will be able to both honor Simmons and tell amusing stories, Kenney said.

"We want to share a different side of the honoree that we don't get to see," Kenney said.

Part of honoring Simmons will be the location of the event: Downtown Siloam Springs. The dinner, catered by 28 Springs, will be held on University Street between Broadway and Mt. Olive. The event starts at 6:30.

"When you think of Shelley Simmons, you think of downtown Siloam Springs," Kenney said.

Tickets cost $35. To sign up, visit the Chamber of Commerce at www.siloamchamber.com or call the office at 479-524-6466. The event will be casual attire.
