Congressional art competition

The Congressional Art Competition awards presentation will be held at the Siloam Springs Public Library from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Congressman Steve Womack, host of the 2017 competition, will present five finalists with their awards, before unveiling this year's winner. He will also present a patriot award and a people's choice award.

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The local contest included 108 entries from high schools in the Third District. A total of 26 Siloam Springs students and 16 Gentry students participated.

All of the awards, except the people's choice award, will be selected by a panel of judges, which includes Dylan Turk, curatorial assistant at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art; Sharon Killian, Fayetteville Underground board president; and Christy Barnett, Siloam Springs community member and arts patron. Community members can vote for their favorites for the people's choice award on Womack's Facebook page.

The winner's piece will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol Building.

More information about the contest is available at womack.house.gov.
