Board of Directors doesn't reach quorum

n Tuesday’s agenda items will be moved to the board’s next meeting on Aug. 15.

Tuesday's Siloam Springs Board of Directors meeting was a short one, as summer vacations took their toll on board member attendance.

Attendance at the meeting on Aug. 1 was limited to Directors Frank Johnson, Bob Coleman and Steve Beers. Three directors and the mayor were absent, and one seat on the board is vacant. With only three members present, the board lacked a quorum that would be necessary to approve any agenda items.

Director Coleman, who was named acting mayor last month in anticipation of Vice-Mayor Carol Smiley's absence, declared no quorum, and the agenda items were moved to the next meeting date, which will be Aug. 15.

City Clerk Renea Ellis said the lack of a quorum was the first she had seen in her tenure, which started in 2014. Ellis said the previous City Clerk, who served for 28 years, told her she remembered a lack of quorum only once.

A meeting has not been canceled due to lack of quorum since before 2000, Ellis said.
