Comets defeated in season opener

SOUTH COFFEYVILLE, Okla. -- The Kansas (Okla.) football team dropped its season-opener Friday 14-0 at Oklahoma Union.

Oklahoma Union took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, and the Cougars scored again before halftime to make it 14-0.

The loss extended the Comets' on-the-field losing streak to 14 straight games dating back to the 2015 season.

Because it participated in Oklahoma's Week Zero, the Comets will have an off week this week.

Kansas will return to action on Sept. 8 at Wyandotte.
