Swimmers combine for second at home meet

The Siloam Springs swim teams finished a combined second overall Thursday in their second home meet of the season held at the Hub White Pool inside the Walton Lifetime Health Complex at John Brown University.

In the girls meet, Bentonville finished first with 576 points, followed by Rogers 312.5, Siloam Springs 290, Clarksville 249, Rogers Heritage 117, Fort Smith Southside 89, Greenwood 33, Van Buren 15 and Fort Smith Northside 0.5.

In the boys meet, Bentonville also finished first with 660 points, followed by Siloam Springs 254, Clarksville 248, Rogers 211, Fort Smith Southside 102, Fort Smith Northside 97, Rogers Heritage 78, Van Buren 23 and Alma 16.

Combined, Bentonville was first at 1,236, followed by Siloam Springs 544, Rogers 523.5, Clarksville 497, Rogers Heritage 195, Fort Smith Southside 191, Fort Smith Northside 97.5, Van Buren 38, Greenwood 33 and Alma 16.

"It was another successful meet," said Siloam Springs coach Stephanie Goddard. "No one qualified for state and we were missing our two fastest guys (Landon Cottrell and Hayden Moore, both out with illnesses), but it was still very successful. Our other swimmers stepped up and swam some events that they were not excited about, but overall a second place finish is awesome."

Siloam Springs' girls 200-yard medley relay team of Kate Gryder, Claudia Manning, Caroline Farine and Isabelle Pennick placed fifth at 2 minutes, 23.19 seconds and scored 28 points. The team of Baleigh Butler, McKenzie Blanchard, Catherine Donner and Chandler Losh placed sixth at 2:29.96 and scored 26 points.

The boys' 200-yard medley relay team of Will Gryder, Owen Thomas, Lee Thompson and Chase Kruger placed third at 2:01.79 and scored 32 points. The team of Ethan Andrus, Harrison Losh, Sean Jeppsen and Mason Clayton finished sixth at 2:17.82 and scored 26 points.

Kate Gryder took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:23.93 and scored 15 points, while Pennick was sixth at 2:39.78 and scored 13 points.

Thomas was third in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:13.66 and scored 16 points.

Losh placed ninth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 3:18.48 and scored nine points.

Farine placed 10th in the girls 50-yard freestyle at 29.67 and scored seven points, while Blanchard was 22nd at 36.0, HannaJoy Morgan 27th at 38.03, Jenifer Reyes 28th at 38.45 and Jenna Weilnau 40th at 54.09.

Thompson paced the Panthers in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.43 and scored nine points. Javan Brewer was 36th at 33.71, while Matt Hargett was 37th at 34.29.

Manning was sixth in the girls 100-yard butterlfy at 1:20.66 and scored 13 points, while Kate Gryder was seventh at 1:22.60 and scored 12 points, Catherine Donner eighth at 1:26.97 and scored 11 points and Reyes 10th at 2:08.39 and scored seven points.

Thompson placed fourth in the boys 100-yard butterfly at 1:04.14 and scored 15 points, while Kruger was eighth at 1:14.54 and scored 11 points and Jeppsen 10th at 1:27.81 and scored seven points.

Thomas placed second in the boys 500-yard freestyle at 6:06.79 and scored 17 points.

The girls 200-yard freestyle relay team of Pennick, Manning, Donner, Farine placed fifth at 2:08.97 and scored 28 points. The team of Chandler Losh, McKenzie Blanchard, Baleigh Butler and HannaJoy Morgan at 2:24.72 and scored 24 points.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Thomas, Andrus, Harrison Losh and Kruger placed third at 1:53.85 and scored 32 points.

Butler placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:23.61 and scored 15 points.

Manning placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:28.90 and scored 14 points, while Blanchard placed seventh at 1:34.32 and scored 12 points.

Harrison Losh placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.28 and scored 15 points, while Andrus was ninth at 1:35.60 and scored nine points, Tyler Sharp 11th at 1:42.96 and scored six points and Matt Hargett 12th at 1:44.26 and scored five points.

The girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kate Gryder, Pennick, Donner and Farine placed fourth and scored 30 points with a time of 4:42.30. The team of Chandler Losh, Butler, Morgan and Reyes finished sixth at 5:38.69 and scored 26 points.

The boys 400-yard freestyle of Kruger, Harrison Losh, Thompson and Andrus finished fourth at 4:19.38 and scored 30 points. The team of Sharp, Jeppsen, Hargett and Brewer placed seventh at 5:16.16 and scored 24 points.

The Panthers and Lady Panthers are scheduled to swim at Clarksville on Monday.

"Hopefully everyone will be healthy and we will qualify a few there (for state meet)," Goddard said.
