Curtis Harris, 28, of Siloam Springs, was arrested on July 11 after detectives allegedly found a pipe bomb, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia in his home.

Detectives from the Benton County Sheriff's Office visited Harris' home on Phelps Drive to investigate a gun that Phelps reported stolen, according to the affidavit of probable cause. Pawn records showed that Harris pawned the weapon just prior to reporting it stolen, the document states.

At first Harris declined to show detectives where he kept the missing gun, explaining that he didn't want to get in trouble for a firework his friends had given him that looked like a pipe bomb. Harris eventually agreed to show detectives where the gun was kept and showed them the device, which detectives said was "clearly a pipe bomb," in the affidavit.

As the detectives were looking at the bomb, a syringe fell on the floor directly in front of them, the affidavit states.

Harris told the detectives he wanted the bomb disposed of and everyone was cleared from the house for their safety. Harris declined to tell detectives who had given him the pipe bomb, explaining that he didn't want to get them in trouble, the affidavit states.

The Bentonville Bomb Squad arrived and rendered the bomb safe, the affidavit states. Detectives obtained a warrant to search the house. The search revealed multiple syringes, a baggie, glass smoking pipe and a baggie of methamphetamine, the affidavit states.

Harris was charged with felony criminal possession of explosives, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $50,000 bond.
