New businesses in downtown

Pure Joy Ice Cream and Chickadee's Fresh Fare are two of the many reasons that people across Northwest Arkansas are talking about downtown Siloam Springs, according to Kelsey Howard, executive director of Main Street Siloam Springs.

"We are excited to welcome them to the downtown community," she said.

Both businesses have done a great job of restoring older buildings in a way that seamlessly integrates the historic qualities of downtown with a very fresh and relevant look, she said.

Matt and Meghan Feyerabend, owners of Pure Joy, have put a great deal of thought into the facade of the building and integrated its appearance with the marketing of their business.

"The Feyerabend's really know what they are doing and really care about the historic quality of downtown," she said.

Chickadee's has done the same thing and designed a building that is attractive to a wide variety of people, Howard said.

"They were so thoughtful about everything from the color pallet to the logo to the beautiful mural on the side of the building," Howard said.

"I appreciate how intentional both businesses have been creating an aesthetic that is both inviting and fitting with our nostalgic downtown," Howard said.

On Monday afternoon, Howard said she was walking downtown and saw a bench in front of Pure Joy Ice Cream packed with very happy people eating ice cream and enjoying themselves. Chickadee's also has great outdoor space and is right across the street from the library and the new development in Medical Springs Park.

Howard said she expects to see more innovation in the future as the community is drawn to downtown for so many reasons.

"This is a slice of what's to come with all the activity downtown and the new development that's coming," Howard said. "I couldn't be happier. It's going to be such a nice result of private and public working together."
