Connie Matchell won the Siloam Springs School Board Zone 2 election on Tuesday with 54.35 percent of the votes.

Matchell received 25 votes while candidate Brad Edwards received 21. Only residents of Zone 2 were allowed to vote in the election.

Brian Lamb, who was running uncontested for the Zone 4 position, received five votes.

School board members serve five-year rotating terms, so that each year one of the five positions come up for election.

Matchell was appointed to serve on the School Board in June after board member Chuck Hyde resigned. State laws require appointed board members to run in the next available election. Matchell will continue to serve out the next four years of Hyde's term.

Matchell, who has a doctoral degree in educational leadership, is the head of the teacher education department at John Brown University. She spent 29 years working in the Siloam Springs School District as a math teacher, middle school principal and at the district administration level.
