Siloam Springs creek rescue

Two boys who jumped from the City Park dam into rain-swollen Sager Creek in downtown Siloam Springs were lucky Dale Smizaski and Eric Briley were nearby. Smizaski, a worker on the crew building a new University Street bridge a few yards downstream, saw the duo jump in and get sucked into the back current at the base of the dam. Smizaski ran along the west bank to get close, then jumped in. Briley was sitting in his truck in a nearby parking lot when he heard people shouting “Call 911.” When he looked up he saw Smizaski jump in and realized someone was in trouble. Briley sprinted to the creek and jumped in, too. They were able to pull the unidentified boys from the creek before firefighters from nearby Station No. 2 arrived with rescue gear.
